A night to remember...

Last night was so fun! I spent all day primping and preening. I even got a new hair cut and style! After I showered and restyled it, my hair was so pretty! I haven't really taken the time to do much with my hair. This has been a nice change!

Back to last night. It started with a lovely meal at Pacific Rim. We talked and ate right up til the beginning of the prom. It was so nice to be away from everything normal.

Avi looked very nice and the weather was perfect for evening wear.

Now for the part that will upset my bloggy friends. I had a new evening bag for my few special needs and it also had my phone. My phone is how I take my pictures for the blog. Well, Avi didn't want me to have to worry about my clutch if we decided to dance. I should have grabbed my phone and put it in my coat. I didn't. Therefore no pictures. I'm so sorry. This is my biggest regret. I will have a professional photo as soon as they mail it to me. My glasses glared, so the photographer promised to get it fixed and mail it to me. As soon as I get it, I will scan it and post it on my blog.

The Heritage room is very pretty at the Amarillo Civic Center. Roses and hearts everywhere. Red and Black. There were women in very fancy dresses. I wouldn't really classify them as prom dresses because they were so fancy. Wedding dresses in all the colors of the rainbow. There were women that were dressed in nice simple dresses. There were a few men in jeans and button up shirts. Most of the men wore a tux or nice suits.

We started out with our prom picture. Avi bought a rose for me to hold in the picture.

The tables were large and round and the tables near the front were reserved. We sat near the middle in a table all to ourselves. Avi said that it would have been fun to sit with people we knew but I told him that I preferred it this way. We could focus on each other.

We sat down and held hands and just looked at each other. We laughed because we had talked so much at the restaurant that we didn't know what to say now that we were at the main event.

We decided to get some punch. It was in a really neat fountain. It didn't taste very good. Avi had coffee and he drank it quickly. We walked around to look at the silent auction. We bought a raffle ticket for a "never cook again" basket. It was the main prize of the evening.

We returned to our table and then listened to the meeting. I spoke about my Table Topics assignment on Thursday as our theme was Valentines day and I asked my fellow Toastmasters about the romantic things that have happened in their lives. Mr. M spoke about playing a one-on- one game of basketball so he could win tickets to a Doobie Brother's concert that his wife wanted to go to. Mr. H relived his proposal of marriage to his wife. Mrs. M said that her husband is always one step ahead of her and always has a pot of coffee waiting for her when she gets home. I mentioned when I had only been married 9 months and I had to tell Avi that his first born son would be born with a cleft palate. He replied, if that means that there will be another person as wonderful and beautiful as you on this planet, that is a very good thing. Avi is his most romantic when things are very painful and very hard. He is always very supportive and loving when I need it the most.

I guess we probably shouldn't have eaten so much, because I can't tell you anything about the hor d'oeuvres. They were catered from all over town and I'm sure they were yummy as everyone around us were munching away.

The music was organized by a DJ and since there were people from High School age to 80, they had to keep it varied. Once the music got to a slow country song, Avi took me to the dance floor. He held me in his arms and I got to dance for the first time ever on a real dance floor and to music. Avi and I hug/dance in the kitchen, but there's never any music. He is a very good dancer and I'm sure he would have enjoyed dancing to something more upbeat but he was very kind. Once the music changed to the younger crowd, we both started to get antsy. They have this music that is a cross between rapping and line dancing. Most of the room got up to dance with it. We're both fuddy duddies. We decided to call it a night.

We went home and had a lovely evening. We did something we never do, watched a movie in bed. It was a stupid movie. It would have been more enjoyable with a murder or alien or something that would make it more interesting. (Don't bother watching Couples Retreat.) I stayed up as Avi snored next to me. But all in all, we had a lovely evening. I will not forget a moment of my evening. Thank you for all of your encouragement and excitement.

Keep checking in to see the prom picture. :-)

Happy Valentine's Day 2010

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

  1. Dear Nee,

I am so happy for you that you got to do one of those things you thought you'd never get to do! How great it was during a time and in a place where you could enjoy without all the teenage pressure you might have known as a younger woman. How much better to enjoy a moment out of time and when you appreciate it so much more.

I do look forward to your picture, but don't regret that you had all the fun possible. Your mind will be the album where the memories are kept. You are the ones who should enjoy this special date.

    Love ya,

    Mom
