Homeschooling Update

We are dealing with some kind of virus. It doesn't seem to be too bad. Just a common cold. But school must go on. I'm dreaming of the days when I could just stay asleep in bed and dream the day away. My children are playing Star Wars, the dog is barking at them and the baby is crawling around being the "rancor". We did some math, we read Proverbs for the day lead by discussion and I read a book with my froggy voice. We'll see if we get anything else done.

Our Weather Unit

We studied weather in Science and have been taking photos to journal our progress. It's been a very fun unit!
Zee is using a bike to display wind speeds.
 Here's a cirrus cloud.
Here's Tzipi playing with electricity and getting to play with fire!
The National Weather Service exhibit at the Science Spectrum is spread throughout the museum. If you don't pay attention, you'll miss it.
 Cumulus clouds.
 The Science Spectrum.

Zee had a blast giving the seven day forecast at the children's museum. (Yay for little brothers)
He would make a great meteorologist. I wish that I'd thought to record this with video. He's very funny.

2nd Day

Here's our second day of school at the nicer library, Godeke. It used to be a Barnes and Nobles.
Here are various plans from architects showing plans for a new library branch on 75th and Slide! (You heard it here folks!)
I can't figure out why this photo is sideways. I didn't take it sideways. It's Zee working on his cloud work. We are learning the latin words that label the cloud formations.
I know it's hard to see, but Tzipi is here with her tutor Mrs. Siron working on her reading. Woohoo!

Today was awesome!

First Day of School

We didn't get to start school on the 26th of August like the other kids in Lubbock as we had to go to Dallas for a follow up (post op) appointment.
So we started on September 3rd. Pinecone decided to say hi before we left. (like always)
The kids were fascinated by a moth that held on for our trip to the library. He was a very furry fellow!
Zee was situated at his own table doing ratios in math, learning about the medieval times and learning about weather forecasting.
Here I am helping him with his English assignment (that made absolutely no sense). Common Core is for commoners.
Tzipi was doing math at her table showing her rad math skills, Before, Between, and After.
Then came lunch and PE: Swimming. Ah yeah!
Nice pool on a warm day.

Tzipi goes to the Dentist

Here is Tzipi in the fancy chair waiting for her name to be called at Dr. Nash's office.
Here's Zalmi fresh after a nap wondering, Where am I?
Here's Tzipi with Dr. Nash: Why the big smile? NO CAVITIES! Way to go Tzipporah!

Side note: All three of the kids have been to the dentist, and no cavities to be seen. I'm very proud of all of them.

Bird Unit Study

Welcome to another blog post.
Today we are making models of birds. This is Zee's bird nest fashioned with real twigs.
.

We learned about Migration this morning and it's amazing to see how Hashem creates birds that can fly as high as 30,000 feet in the air. Scientists did a study in a planetarium showing that birds use the stars to navigate the skies at night.
Teacher's bird on the left and Tzipi's bird is on the right.

Summer Schooling and Surgery

What a week! I feel like someone has turned the "Time Flies" button to maximum. I blink and it's already summer and Zee will be in 6th grade in the fall and Tzipi will be in 2nd. I know we are learning every day and the kids are still growing by leaps and bounds, but it is no where near where I'd like us to be. Nursing a baby makes everything a bit more complicated. Do I love it? Yes. But golly I want to be awesome at homeschooling. I don't want my kids to miss public school for a minute.

Then there is July 23rd. A 3 1/2 hour surgery for my beautiful son. We are all dreading it but ready for it to be over with. When Tzipi and I were at the grocery store, Tzipi was already thinking about the food we'll need to make for him. He's already thinking of the food he won't be able to eat right away and wanting to horde up on it now. How will I nurse him through this recovery while taking care of a baby at the same time? I know it will be fine and work out just as it should but it's going to be a challenge to ask him to do anything remotely like school when he feels yucky. Yes we do year round school. Summer is a bit of a reverse from the rest of the year since I try to get them outside first thing in the morning before it gets too hot to play and then we do what we can as far as school work.

I guess I should go eat some breakfast. Let's get this day going.

Happy 8th Month Birthday

Zalman turned 8 months on the 18th of May and Leelee took a great picture showing his adorable teeth. He's going to the dentist as soon as I get back from Dallas. He's growing two incisors on the side of his upper jaw. I know he's eager to start chewing on food. Normally babies grow their two front teeth, so we are going to check and make sure everything is on par. He's been a good teether. No fevers, just a little fussiness.

Long time no talk to...

Where have I been? Everywhere man.. I've been everywhere. Seriously though... I tried other websites for blogging and I'm only happy with this one. So I'm back. I will try to keep things updated. I'm sorry I've been gone. I have missed blogging, keeping up with my bloggy friends and reading the comments. Even though I'm a very busy gal I find it incredibly helpful to journal this way.

Zee is 11, in 5th grade and growing up so quickly.
Tzipi is 7, in 1st grade and also growing up so quickly.
Zalman is 8 months, and growing up way too fast.
Being a wife, mom, teacher and Toastmaster... wow! My blessings are too many to count.
